I have had 3 deep vein thrombosis in the last 4 years.... 2 of them travelled to my lungs. A little over a year ago they inserted an "inferior vena cava filter" in the vein leading from my legs to my lungs... I am also on lifetime Coumadin (blood thinner)to prevent future occurrances. I am restricted from alcohol because it does affect how Coumadin works in the body. I would suggest your husband read up on the interactions of blood thinners with foods, herbs, vitamins and medicines... and to consider dropping the alcohol. Blood clots in the lungs can indeed be fatal. They can also go to the heart and sometimes to the brain. Is a drink really worth the risk of death?
