Hi: I am so sorry to hear about your bad luck with the DPT shot. I understand it is the Pertussis part of the shot which some children react to. I was very skeptical with my grandchildren after we visited a practice near Denton and found that a doctors son had severe reaction to the shot as an infant and was left permanently disabled. This is quite a dilemma. Since my husband is a doctor I can understand both sides of the argument. The disease that can be caught if the shot is not taken is also severely detrimental and the odds are much better if your child takes the shot well but unfortunately there are some who don't. My grandson had an incredible fever after his first and became almost canatonic. I argued with my husband that I did not want him to take the Pertussis part of the shot again and he complied but my grandson does have a lot of learning difficulties and who knows if perhaps that might have been the culprit. It seems they might be able to give smaller doses and warn parents to watch very closely for any high fever and increase doses as necessary. I think they should at least separate the serums. What a dilemma this must be for young informed mothers today!
