"Tonsil Stones" are the main reason I had mine done. I am still recovering, but would do it again. Those "stones" stink to hight heaven. The only thing I had found that even cme close to helping is a product called TriOral. A mouthwash system. My tonsils were enlarged all the time, and while I ddn't qualify with bacterial infections I would have round after round of viral infections. The docotr told me that due to the infections and all of the scarring and "tunnels" in my tonsils that I had constatnt low grade infections in my tonsils. These "stones" are made of food and /or dead white blood cells that are sloughed off in these "tunnels" when fighting infection. I think it was painful, but not as bad as some of these posts would have you bleieve. By day 3 I was stir crazy and startd going about my daily routine. Just keep the talking down and don't lift heavy stuff or over exert yourself. I even had complications on day 5.The night before (day 4) had actually been the most painful. I was just one of those unlucky 2%. It was a little scary. I woke up at 5 in the morning coughed once and started to bleed from my throat. It caused a scab to come off, I had a blood vbessel too close to the surface.I just had a friend drive me to the hospital, and half and hour later they put me under and recauterized my throat. I am now on day 8 and doing fine. I have a minimum of pain although my voice is not back to mormal yet.I was never given anything but ibuprofin and diclofenac. Both forms of NSAIDs. Just use your common sense. You can tell when you are overdoing. My biggest problem is talking too much, because I feel great with the exception of my throat. You have to make the decision for yourself. Even at the height of my pain etc, it wasn't too hard to deal with knowing that my tonsil's would never hurt again. Hope this helps you.
