Adult tonsilectomy

Ronda

Message 57 of 118 Previous Next

My 14 year old daughter had a tonsilectomy this last summer. She used to get sore throats once a month or every other month and she had very bad breath! Dr. said her tonsills were pitted and full of bacteria. So he took the tonsils and adnoids out. Adnoids came out because she snored and never seem to get real rest, woke up tired and tired all day. So the adnoids were removed at same time as tonsils. Recovery was hell, she lost weight, could only eat popcicles and a scar band grew between her uvula and where the tonsil was. Uvula was swollen to the size of my thumb. Scar band was cut easy enough at three week check up. But after all this hell I must admit that it was worth it. She hasn't had a sore throat since, her bad breath is totaly gone, no longer snores and gets a good nights rest so has more energy. I asked her if she had to do it over again would she do it. She said at the time of recovery she would say no, but now that she it totaly healed she is very glad she did and would do it again. So it sounds like your surgery would be a easier recovery with the flaps. I wish you good luck and hope this didn't freak you out but encourage you to see that it should be worth it.
