DVT's are nothing to take lightly. If you feel that one is astir again, ask your doc about doing a doppler. Or, maybe you need an evaluation from a totally strange doc that specializes in vascular problems. There are always greenfield filters that can be put into place to keep clots from lower extremities going to the lungs, etc. I have a history of 4 - all trauma related. Each time there has been hospitalization and a heparin drip for several days along with hot moist heat and the legs elevated. After several days when the ppt and pro times are reaching a good level then coumadin is started. I am on it for life after the 4th one. Yes, those rascals can get to be quite uncomfortable. You will probably notice that the legs feel better when elevated. The DVT's are nothing to speculate or procrastinate about. One in the wrong place can kill a person in very short order. If one stalls thinking of the inconvenience of several days, they may pay the price for eternity and then inconvenience won't mean a thing.
