In the summer of 1996, my daughter, Amber, age 15, developed involuntary movements and was seen by numerous doctors and it was determined to be Sydenham's Chorea, a manifestation from Rheumatic Fever. She also had a heart murmur at the time, which in time, healed it's self. She is on penicillin as a preventive measure to protect her heart from further infections. It was a very scary time as Amber's dad and I did not know what was happening to our daughter. She had a hard time walking, talking and we had to feed her. It took about 6 weeks to run it's course. She does not experience joint pain or sore throat from the strep, this chorea is the only way we know that she has been exposed to strep. She has had several reoccurences, not as bad as the first attack. She is 19 years old and is having some chorea and the doctor has heard another heart murmur. I guess I am just interested in talking to some one that has a child, or a person that has gone through this experience to get back to me. It would help so much too find someone to talk too about it.
