Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Message 1 of 15 Next

I recently posted a message asking whether anyone had any up to date info on PCOS and whether there were any new medications to help overcome the excess insulin and testosterone which my body iw producing. I had a message from someone with ovarian cysts. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is very different from ordinary ovarian cysts. There are countless cysts and the condition brings about an increase in the body's production of testosterone and insulin and can bring about weight gain, diabetes, and apparently endometrial cancer. It can only be diagnosed with ultrasound and blood tests, both of which I have had, and both of which were abnormal and pointed out to my doctor that I did indeed have the condition. The cysts are not particularly big in size - the lady who responded to me had a cyst which was between a golf ball and a tennis ball in size - this is not Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - which is why I am hoping to hear about from anyone (preferably in the US - I am in Australia and we don't have much information here)who has either researched the condition, or who can tell me of some tricks they can use to lose several stone in weight. I am on a diet which is almost completely free of carbohydrates and am exercising gently several days a week. However, the weight is not moving. PCOS is also characterised by the fact that it is hereditary - both my daughters have it, so any help we can get would be greatly appreciated.
