What causes precocious puberty?

A mom, and early pub'er

Message 2 of 2 Previous

Please do not be upset by this process. It does seem early, but kids are hitting puberty younger and younger-- and there has been some research on whether this trend is caused by the growth/other hormones in milk and poultry. If he was under 10, this would be perhaps cause for concern. 25 years ago, I started menstruating at 10 years old. This was considered very young back then, but now it is within the normal age range. This is not caused by early sexual abuse/involvement (I was a virgin until 20s) or any of the other old wives tales from long ago. I've been told by our specialists that my daughter (due to inheriting my early puberty traits) and her current development trends may hit puberty as early as age eight. Although I am not thrilled with that prospect, rather than getting upset, I am educating myself on what is going on with her body and what to expect. I also am teaching her proper hygiene and will have to explain things that as a child with womanly features and bodily functions she will have to be aware of. Check with an endicrinologist or other specialist if you are still concerned. I had my daughter thouroughly checked over (blood, hormones, bone growth tests, etc.) last year when we first noted early puberty symptoms to be sure that nothing was medically wrong-- she will just be a bit ahead of schedule. We'll deal with it!
