As far as I know it is Hepatitis C that can be associated with aids. I have auto-immune hepatitis and it is not a communicable disease, just a case of my anitbodies fighting my body. It is sad that you student died, as there is effective treatment to stabilise the damage to the liver and to stop further auto-immune responses. I am 53 and was diagnosed last year with this problem and it is likely that I was born with the condition.
