Ways to help lessen the severness of attacks

After many doctor visits, I was diagnosed with Meniere's, but fortunately, for the past few years, it's not bothered me. My doctor said it may have to just go away on its own. The last time, I had terrible symptoms for 4 years. Caffeine really bothered me, as did sodium--but another culprit was salycilates (sp?)in aspirins and other meds. I couldn't even have a teeny amount of caffeine, OR salycilates. Those two were the worse offenders. And, also they say alcohol and drugs will affect it, too. I drank caffeine free colas and started taking Advil for aches and pains. I wasted so much time just getting a correct diagnosis, and a lot of time, trying to figure out just what set off the "spells" as I called them. The spells were like I had ingested poison---my vision started getting blurry, my lips and other extremities tingled, and I felt a surge of *something* coming thru my veins/body. Then, I had trouble breathing, and my heart felt like it would explode. I was convinced that I was dying and went to the emergency room twice in the beginning. The dizziness is so hard to try to control because usually you can steady yourself, sit down and get a grip. But, with Meniere's your dizziness is so out of control, you can't lie, sit, stand, walk, or anything else without severe dizziness. You seem to be avoiding most of the culprits, but you may want to also consider staying away from the salycilates. Best of luck to you and your healing. Jayne
