Pernicious Anemia

Dear Fran, I have PA, and I would suggest that, if you have no intrinsic factor, you either have or will get PA by definition. You need it to digest B12. Your symptoms are those of PA, but I could not tell fom your message whether they have improved since injecting B12? My diagnosis was difficult - there is debate about which B12 level is too low - but the injections reversed all symptoms. You might see if you have macrocytic or megaloblastic anemia to help diagnosis it - also a Schilling test. But the bottom line is that B12 injections will help if it is PA. I didn't feel much better until about 4 months, optimal after maybe 6 months of 1x/mo injections. Some doctors give weekly doses at first, which may speed up recovery. I hope that it is PA and not MS, because a monthly injection is all I need now after years of agony. Good Luck!
