My son, 12 1/2, is still in the hospital from osteomyelitis in his hip joint. It took almost 2 weeks to diagnose, then 2 surgeries to clean out the area and get his temperature back to normal. He is receiving antibiotics thru a picc line and will continue with this treatment another 4-6 weeks. He has lost 22 pounds, is anemic, and still finds it very painful to use his leg. We hope to take him home soon, but I have to say that I continue to be surprised and panicked about how serious and long-term this illness seems to be. Your messages of recovery were encouraging and I will pass them on to my son. He has some pretty low days and doesn't say much about it, but I know he is afraid that he will never get better. Any other info would be appreciated. Thanks!
