I am seeking as much information as I can get regarding bipolar disorder in adolescents. My 15 year old daughter has been diagnosed with this disorder. My husband also has bipolar disorder. The symptoms are so much different with my daughter, though. About a year ago, her personality began to change. She was always a straight A student, and very athletic. She excelled at anything she did. Then, she dropped out of sports, her grades went down, she began hanging out with kids that were involved in drugs and alcohol. Over time she became out of control. The psychiatrist prescribed zoloft and depekote for her. She was so tired with the depekote, that he just switched her to tegretol and zoloft. I am wondering if this is common to prescribe both an anti-depressent and a mood stablizer for her? She is beginning to respond, but she has done so many stupid things, she no longer has credebility with teachers, friends or family members. She has been feeling pretty badly about herself. I just don't know what to do. I would appreciate any help we can get.
