Adult Scoliosis Surgery

Message 2 of 10 Previous Next

I had corrective surgery when I was 44 years old. my curve was about 60 degrees. I was in surgery for about seven hours and my surgery was sucessful. I had about a 85%improvement in my appearence which to me was great, because I had severe scolosis and was leaning to the side pretty bad with a very pronounced hump.My doctor had me up on the second day sitting on the side of the bed for a few minutes and on the third day I was up walking with the help of a nurse and a walker for about 10 minutes. I stayed in the hospital for about six days and I returned to work in about six weeks. I wore a back brace for about two months. It has been six years since my surgery and I consider myself doing well. I do have some back pain but I use over the counter medication and all in all For me, surgery was the right thing. Of course not everyones circumstances are the same,Im only leting you know how it turned out for me. I live in Dallas,Tx and my doctor was Dr. John Regan, who works out of the Texas Back Institute in Plano Tx. He is a fine sergeon. Hope this helps.
