Sara, About three years ago I began having swelling in my left foot and ankle. It took me two years to get an accurate diagnosis: primary lymphedema or Milroy's disease. This is a disease that, at this time, has no cure but can be managed in several different ways. I suggest that you go to any site on the net that explains lymphedema and see if your symptoms match theirs and then discuss it with a physician. I ended up seeing a vasicular surgeon in that other physicians are reluctant to diagnosis it because they don't know that much about it.
