Sorry to hear about your friend. I too went to the emergency room on July 9, 2000....my leg was swollen around the knee and thigh....I knew something wasnt right and it was not a muscle strain......needless to say, the doctor sent me home with an anti-inflammatory drug and told me to put heat on it....claiming he said it was a muscle spasm.....they NEVER took any x-rays or did any blood work! Leg was not getting better....saw my own doctor two days later and she ran tests....I had an extensive blood clot (DVT) in my right leg....landed in the hospital for nine days. I am letting you know that I too was misdiagnosed and I am very LUCKY to be alive today. Still fighting the blood clot but I have found myself a specialist.
