Raynauds

Message 17 of 28 Previous Next

I have had Raynaud's syndrome for many, many years now. I believe that mine is related to the fact that I have a mitral valve prolapse. My feet get cold and numb when I sit normally just as yours do and the tip of my nose is always cold - but my real problem is my hands. My hands get cold very easily even in an air conditioned room and particularly when I'm grocery shopping. I do the cold items last because my hands always get totally numb and my fingers turn white and then blue and purple. It stings and although I say they are numb - still they hurt as well. The only way that I've been able to get them back to normal lately is to run hot water over the inside of my wrists. This problem is becoming worse with age. I would be happy to talk to you about what my doctors tell me. I am having surgery soon and I can warn you that when you have surgery, the anesthesiologist must know that you have this problem so that they do not let you get cold post operatively. They have a system now called a "Bear Hugger" that they can put over you in the recovery room and it keeps you very warm. If you would like to talk to me about further "hints", I can be reached via e-mail: Sassion@aol.com
