MS or what?

Ben

I've seen a couple of respected neurosurgeons and have a great, conservative, family Dr. I believe the MRI's were on modern machines. I've not seen any MRI printouts. I can understand why Dr's have assured me it's not MS. I too would be reluctant to make such a diagnosis based only on symptoms. I still present myself well and look fit and healthy despite a 10+lb weight gain and recent knee injury (MS related?). If I was a doctor I too would want to see abnormal signs in MS tests (MRI, spinal, etc.). Perhaps advancements in MRI imaging have Dr's relying too heavily on this tool for MS diagnosis. I read that 5-10% of those diagnosed with MS have normal MRI's. I also understand that it may take years for lesions to be evident on MRI's for many with MS. I suspect I'll be in limbo until I have either vision problems or lesions evident in head/neck/spine MRI's. I suspect I should follow through with more testing. Lastly, and the main reason for this reply, is I suspect improvements are truly needed in the area of diagnosing MS. This is certainly so if new MS medications are proven effective.
