Steriod induced adrenal gland insufficiency

Jan

Message 5 of 5 Previous

Adrenal gland insufficiency can be caused by high doses of prednisone. The incidence is 1 out of 100,000. It is also called secondary Addison's disease. My endocrinogists says my problem is in the pititary gland. He says my adrenal gland is atrophied. I just had my am cortisol drawn and it is 1.7. My doctor feels he can get me off the prednisone but the fact that I also have asthma makes it more difficult. My potassium is always low and I get cramps. I take 80 mg orally a day. Thanks for your input. I would like to hear more about your husband. Jan
