All of the nerves of your body run through the cervical area. If a disk is bulging or herniated, it is probably hitting nerves in there. I had to have surgery two years ago on C-5 & 6 due to the disk herniated into the spinal cord. Nerves can be affected by touching them and they react by jerking or shaking. Right after the surgery, my legs were jumping off the table uncontrollably because they had touched and moved the nerves around. Pain can also cause shaking. It's very hard to try to live with pain every day. It wears on your nerves and your mind. People who have experienced this are the only ones who can sympathize. Don't expect it from too many doctors. You can e-mail me if you would like to discuss the surgical procedure to fix a ruptured/herniated disk in this area. I've had no problems in my neck for two years now. I'd do it again if need be. I know it's hard but try to keep a positive attitude also. There is help out there, sometimes it's a matter of finding it. I now have a herniated disk in the thoracic area. Totally different animal, I'm learning as I go. Would like to share what I know on C5&6. Hope this helps.
