HYDROCEPHALUS

Tracy

Message 3 of 3 Previous

I was so sorry to hear of your experience. I have two of three children with Hydrochephlus. Their 23 and 21 and 15. The 23 yr old, is graduated from nursing and now helps other children deal with this, and my son 15 has just gone thru a relatively new procedure, one year ago. She (23) is bright and has amazed many with her blessings. When she was a baby, they gave us NO HOPE! Just watch her to see if a shunt worked or not. No promises, but she has been determined to grow up to be a bright young woman. She is a nurse, married, and life is really good. My 15 year old had experimental drug theraphy at 10 months. That lasted a short time. Then two years ago they tried a new procedure called ventricular surgery! This also was really positive. Neither, were picked up prior to delivery. We went thru genetic testing with no real answers and none known for this situation. But I tell you so that you are aware, that even thru their little years, and beyond with love and guidance they are now happy, healthy and leading very hective lives. My daughter would want you to know that although many times they didn't know what would happed, we worked thru whatever did come our way and she should know! She has had 7 surgeries. Matthew my 15 year old, is really fine. Honour student, plays sports, basketball, softball, bicycle, or any new challenge with a positive way to challenge others without this. I hopefully encourage you to try again. They also can do surgery in the womb to help these little ones. I do understand the scarieness of trying so hard to have a family, but this condition can be worked with and you could quite possibly have a nice family, in spite of Hydrocephalus. This has had to be hard on you. I will continue to pray for you and your family. I know how hard it is to hear this diagnosis. But I also have another daughter (21) who is normal. NO ONE would even be able to guess which chlldren are dealing with this in public. SO, you see I do understand! You cannot change the past but I sincerely pray you will try again, and whatever the answers are I would love to keep in touch. May you have your family, and enjoy them as much as I have. Just know that somewhere out there, people care, and will and answer you questions as well as we can. I wish you well, Tracy
