21/2 year old son's speech disorder

Dear Suzanne, I found your letter to echo a lot of my own son's odyssey. He has been receiving early intervention treatments since he was 1 1/2 years old (he is now 3). We went through a complete neuroligical workup after a neuroligist saw my son for about five minutes and basically wished us good luck--he mentioned autism and we were horrified. My son's speech therapist just mentioned to me that he has characteristics of dyspraxia, and this seems to be fitting more of his behavior than autism. He never really babbled, just a-baa, but he does say a few words, mostly with -b- and -d- and -l- consonant sounds--no -k- or -g- sounds at all. He also has a fine motor problem--problems picking up utensils, crayons, etc. Sorry to go on, but it's nice to finally start reading some info that fits more with him than autism.
