I was diagnosed with DCIS almost 2 years ago. It depends on how large your lesions is, if the margins are clear etc. I went to a Univ. Hosp. and had a core needle biopsy - that was there was less invasion. Mine was .5 cm. They do not recommend mastectcomy on CA unless you have multiple sites or it is very large. I would suggest you go to a University type Hosp. and ask for a radiation oncology consultation. I only needed to have the biopsy and J-wire and am being watched every 6 mo with 6 mo follow-up mammograms - NO MASTECTOMY NEEDED. GET A 2ND OPINION!!!! AND GOT FOR..TO A RADIATION ONCOLOGY EVALUATION
