Epilepsy: One High Mountain

As we plunge through the new millenium, it's delightful to see that more and more previously "closeted" subjects are coming out. One of the biggest hush-hush topics has been, for centuries, epilepsy. I've had it since my mid-twenties, brought on by the use of forecips as I was being born. I've had to deal with epilepsy, unforseen seizures now three-quarters of my life. And despite the college education, presentable image, once an employer finds out about what could or what has happened on their premises, I can count on being out of a job. And don't belive what the media says. Sure, we're protected, but even with the directions of a great attorney, an ex-employer can dream up many others reasons for having let one go. I've been through this, losing money every time. Even the finest neurologists will admit that the "wonder drug" hasn't been found, that there are about as many versions and combinations of epilepsy as there are people. What helps? A positive attitude on the part of one with the Big E, the guts to take the stand and speak out, and something of a smile as opposed to a wrinkled forehead. I've got epilepsy. Always will. Maybe it'll become milder. But I'm still grateful for every day I'm being given on this planet.
