Dyshydrotic eczema

Jeff Willmer

Message 3 of 5 Previous Next

I was also diagnosed with dishydrotic eczema after thinking I had a fungus infection picked up years before in Papua New Guinea. The prednisone worked initially with topical application of (very old-fashioned!) Castellani's Tincture (minus the magenta). The only sure fire way I've found of avoiding the excruciating itch over the last 20+ years is to keep my feet cool. As soon as sweating starts, so does the itching. Hot baths, an overly warm bed, hot shoes- all precipitate the itching. I was told the reason for the itching is that the sweat ducts in the feet do not come to the surface properly, so the build up of sweat within the blocked ducts brings on the intense itching. It seems to be a case of prevention rather than cure... JBW
