Prolonged use of eye drops will not intensify your dry eye problem if you use eye drops that do not have preservatives. This means that you have to purchase single-use eye drops such as Refresh or Tears Naturalle Free. These drops will not cause a problem. The preservatives in the bottled eye drops will make your eyes drier than they would be without any drops. Believe me, I have been through this and 80% of the problem cleared up when I stopped putting preservatives in my eyes.
