Achondroplasia

I am a 38 y/o mother of 3 children. My eldest daughter is 19 and of normal size. My two youngest daughters are of short statue. My mother did not know what was wrong with me as a baby. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 6 months old. It was then that my mother was told by the doctors that I would either isolate myself with other dwarfs or work in a circus. Attitudes have changed (thank God) But still there will be times of hardship. I went to public school and it was not easy. The child needs to learn to adjust and find his own identity in the mist of a normal sized world. I and my children have had very few health problems. I had problems with my ears as a child but that's it. My best advise give the child all the love and support but be careful not to overprotect. Let him take the bumps that normal children take. There is so much known now that was not known when I was a child. Doctors are more informed and more likely to be sensitive. You are already doing what is right. God Bless
