I almost lost my 13yr. old daughter to this in june 1999. Thank goodness she was life flighted to a larger hospital whom I feel saved her life. She laid in a comma for a month and was on all kinds of machines. They told us that it was not contageous therefore I don't think that it can spread. As far as a mother getting it the outcome might be grim but as far as the baby I think that they would be able to save it as long as it was developed.
