Our 4 1/2 year old daughter had a traumatic birth, so we knew that she had severe CP immediately. However, we subsequently have a 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 year children and can note the differences. Mostly loook for delays in development, too much arching (of their backs), lessened abilities to learn to grasp, difficulties in eating, a 'floppy head" which means inability to control, or support their head. Sometimes CP children are also affected mentaly. However, our daughter Rebecca is extreemely bright although she is severely affected. overall, the best thing to do is go to a good pediatric neurologist and spend the time and effort to get a solid diagnosis. If you child is CP, then VERY AGGRESSIVELY pursue good therapy. THE EARLIER YOU BEGIN TREATING THE CHILD'S ISSUES THE BETTER HE/SHE WILL BE AND THE GREATER OPPORTUNITY THEY WILL HAVE TO ACHEIVE NORMALCY. Also, the easier it will be for you in the amount of effort to help your child later. They have the greatest ability to adapt with the earliest treatment. Please contact me with any questions, etc. We are very happy to help parents who are interested in helping their children.\ Ed
