hello, i had the same problem, when i hiccups all those acid from my stomach comes up with it and they are very loud, like a barking dog sometime, i had a hiatal hernia which cause the acid reflux all the time, i had the hiatal hernia repair and the hiccups went away for a long time, but now it's back again, but not with the acid since i can't have any heartburn or reflux where they repair the hernia. my hiccpus gets so loud and it's dry and it really hurts like hell!!!!! I'm on medication for it now, I'm taking Thorizine to control it and it helps but it makes you feel like a zombie. I just came from the doctor yesterday and he wants me to see a lung speacialist and i have an appointment with that doc next week and he think i may have to have surgery which involve the phrenic nerve that cause your diaphrams to contrast on you. I wish your wife the best of luck, i would advise her to go to a stomach doc and have the light in her stomach and check to make sure she doesn't have the hernia. The doc 20 years ago didn't know what to do with hiccups then but with all the new study out there out a few option, but not a lot. I suggests that she sees the doc soon about it esp. with the reflux. Stacie
