diverticulitis diet

Hello, I'm sorry to hear about the diverticulitis problem. High-fiber is great, but not in the form of wheat-bread. Wheat bread (whole or white) has appeared to be the culprit in many disorders. My suggestion to you after reading a lot of info and talking to many people about theit experience, is to stay away from wheat all-together (bread, cookies, cereals -read the labels!-, pasta, etc). Go to the healthfood store and try wheat & gluten-free bread, such as Rice Bread, Millet bread, rye bread. Start taking Psyllium Husks Fiber (preferebly in powder), at least a table spoon 2x every day, preferebly in water, pineapple-juice, grape-juice, or cranberry-juice and start taking MSM, which is a sulphur compound called Methyl Sulphenyl Methane, which has shown to produce collagen in the body, which includes restoring the elasticity in the skin and intestines. Dosage should be 4,000mg 2x daily, and an easy and cheap way to take it is in powder, which is about 1 teaspoon 2x daily. Behold it is pretty bitter. I myself put it in a smoothy with flax-oil (another great remedy), and protein powder. Also, Acidophilus for a few days 9-12 capsules a day, don't worry, you cannot over-do it, and maybe a good digestive enzymes. Temporarily, stay-off potatoes and oranges(+ juice), because they are too acidic for our system to digest, and only make it hard for our intestines to heal. MSM helps by going into the diverticula (pockets) that have formed because the intestines have lost their elasticity over time, because of constipation and bad diet over the years. Think of a balloon that has been inflated for days and finally, slowly looses air. You see bubbles appear on its skin, because the balloon has lost its elasticity! Same thing happens to your intestines. Another great source of high fiber is lots of vegetables, fruit (no cantaloupe or honeydew, because of their quick molding!) and start eating rice (Brown or Basmati). Having an evening-cocktail is not the problem, eating wheat, pork, oranges and some other things, is...! Good Luck in your speedy recovery!
