Sacroiliac Dysfunction

Message 5 of 7 Previous Next

Hi, First I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "dysfunction" The funtion is that it is the area that connects the pelvic area to the low spine area. Although it is commanly called the Sacroiliac Joint it's not truely a joint. BUT it's functions doess have a certain amount of mobility and for it to disfunction... you have to ask WHAT IS CAUSING IT TO DISFUNCTION? the most common reason is arthritis. BUT when you havee arthritis in the Sacroiliac it's not usually the ol rheumatoid.. or osteo. HAVE YOU BEEN TO A RHEUMATOLOGIST??? I have a type of arthritis called SPONDYLOARTHROPATHY ( big word) It appears it is a much more difficult type to diagnoise and is in a group of arthritis called "SERO-NEGATIVE" there is no one test to diagnoise it. I do know some rheumatologist MISS IT. IT is the presence of symptoms, x rays, high rate of inflamation. Has your dr. done the SED RATE test? a blood test that determines the level of inflamation in your body? Have you ever had problems with Uritis? (an eye inflamation similar to conjuntivitis?) How about some time back even a few yrs back... sudden big hot swollen knees and you just knew you had not injured them...?? quite a few had that early on before we ever even suspected arthritis...but not all of us... I ask these things because I do have this type of arthritis and MOST EVERYONE gets involvement early on with that sacroiliac area. I KNOW>.. it feels awful... the low back aches horrible. the back sides of the hip area.. impossible to walk for very long..and WORST to stand very long.. the sacroiliac ares deteriorates.. connective tissues can be involved....HORRIBLE TRYING TO STAND IN THE KITCHEN AND COOK A DECENT MEAL. I love to cook but by the time I'm half way thru, I'm crying with pain. Hard to sit very log...and I have a terrible time driving too far..locally is fine...but getting in and out of the car is a chore. I have a 93 ford taurus.. I keep the car because of the comfortable seats. We had a toyota camry and it was a nice little car, good on gas..but the most PAINFUL car I've ever rode in. Small HARD seats, like sitting on cement. no back support.. Likely you should be on an anti inflamatory med... I had go go on Methotrexate to help suppress the progression... you can write to me if you want and I could send you some links about this. It really sounds like that is what is happening with you.. many but not all have a genetic factor as it seems to pass thru families... but not always. betty onefineseamstres@aol.com
