I also have polycystic liver.. Massive large cyst in the right liver lobe. Many others scattered through out the liver.. I had surgery to have the large cyst deroofed in late 2001.. It came back in 3-4 months.. I saw a liver and GI dr at a university hospital . I questioned whether my taking Librium (anti-anxiety drug) could have caused this problem/condition. I was told no. But I have taken the drug for 30 some yrs. Was always very sensitive to all meds and tried the anti-depressents, always going back to librium as I could function well on the drug and not feel like I was " on drugs".. I still wonder to this day if Libriam didnt cause this condition. I have no history of anyone in my family having polycystic liver and do not have the cysts on the kidneys..(which is usually the case). This disease has literally taken over my life.. I cant seem to accept that I just inherited it and to live with it.. I like the long explaination here,of the former post, as I do feel drugs can damage the liver.. In the way of producing these cysts, I dont know. But if they can decrease the bile flow in the small bile ducts..this sounds like what polycystic liver is? I am confused but going to ask my dr. to see if he can gradually take me off this drug..Its already done the damage , if is connected,but I just dont feel good about it anymore. I have decreased it by 10 mgs per day after discovering I had this condition/disease. Thanks for reading this and would like to hear more comments on anyone who has this disease and how they cope with it. Draining or deroofing the cysts do no good, except relieve the pressure temporarily. Have a nice day..
