As a Registered Nurse I was initially treating myself for indigestion/heartburn for 4-5 months. One late evening nothing helped & I actually thought I was having a heart attack. Husband rushed me to the Emergency Room & was admitted. 4 days later was diagnosed with Hiatal Hernia plus GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Yes GERD can eventually lead to Cancer of the Esophagus if not properly treated with medication. Was initially put on Prilosec 1 capsule daily then increased to 2 capsules daily. On the 2 capsules I have no problems. No special diet for either problem. Continue taking your medication without fail & you shouldn't have any further problems. A little trick I have is to take 3-4 capsules & put them aside just in case I run out of the Prilosec. Good luck. Eileen
