I have had breast reconstruction after mastectomy, and although it is an involved operation, I got through it quite easily with the help of painkillers for a couple of weeks. I first got rid of any possible cancer by having chemo for 12 cycles before I had the plastic surgery. I hated the prosthesis, especially in summer when you sweat, couldn't wait to get home from work and remove it. I never regretted having the plastic surgery (no implants!)as my breast lost or gained weight with the rest of my body. This was done in 1985 at the age 57.
