Tourette's Syndrome

Nancy

Message 1 of 1

My son was diagnosed at the age of 5, his ticks began when he was three. I didn't worry too much about his odd behaviour/sound because I also experienced the same things when I was little. When my son was diagnosed I was also diagnosed and since, discovered the "family" connection. it is more common in males than females and females seem more predisposed to depression and OCD than lots of vocal/physical tics. I give him lots of room for fun and laughter, join him in the loud tics to relieve the stress and add some humour to the "swears" tic. He's been on Nitoman and this has made a huge difference. Excellent Doctor and better than that has been the support of friends and family. Not everyday is a struggle as it has been in the past. I am always open to new techniques of relaxation, biofeedback and just plain time out for laughter. You need lots of laughter. We are all doing well, as well as can be expected, but we look at the glass as half full! Cheers
