Beef Tapeworm (T. Saginata) and Pork Tapeworm (T. Solium)

Can the proglottids (sections) of the tapeworm be seen by the naked eye when outside of the human host? Are they translucent? transparent? opaque? Literature describes that a person may expel a "long chain" of proglottids. Since proglottids are 1.5 cm, what can be expected in the length of a long chain? Can the chain of proglottids crawl across your skin seeking re-entry through your nose or mouth? I am desperately in need of help here. I am caring for my adult son who has a suspected tapeworm infection.(Ova/Cysts/Parasites test being run again, but literature says ova tests are rarely positive in case of Teania infection.) There may be an element of psychosis in his complaints, but that can also be a symptomatic result if the cysts of the worm have lodged in the brain (Cysticercosis). I am trying to dispel some of our fears by gathering facts. So, is it possible that segments of a tapeworm outside of a human host are invisible but their mass can be felt when picked up by a tissue?
