Interstitial Cystitis-Hereditary?

Ruth

Message 1 of 1

I have IC. I am 21 and have had it for a year and a half. My doctor has me on several drugs to control pain and try rebuild the lining in the bladder. I am curious about whether or not it is hereditary. No one else in my family has this - that I know of. But we do have several auto-immune diseases including MS and Lupos. I saw that one internet site talked about IC being an auto-immune disease. I definitely don't want my kids going through this kind of pain. Has anyone else noticed this running in the family or any other coorelations? Also - what triggers the IC to start? I was fine until I had a kidney stone 2 years ago. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks while they tried to flush it out. I guess I had a horrible infection as well. They ended up doing surgery to remove the stone. About 5 months after that I started noticing pain in my bladder when I had to go to the bathroom. It steadily increased from there. The only thing I can think of is that something about the infection or kidney stone triggered the IC and that the potential was always there. Kinda how they say MS starts. they think it is a virus that triggers it. if you never get that virus then the ms never manifests itself. Does anyone else have ideas on what causes the IC? Or have noticed any patterns?
