I can relate to the abdominal pain, but have constipation instead of the diarrhea (which can also be IBS). Does your Mom's pain come and go or is it constant? That can help to diagnose it. Also, if it comes and goes, I would recommend a diary of what foods she is eating. Do certain foods seem to trigger it? Keeping a journal helps to pinpoint it. The other thing to try is to go to a liquid diet and if it goes away, then try adding foods back into the diet slowly. Sometimes it takes a day to have a reaction if you are only sensitive and not highly allergic. Tell her not to despair as it takes time to figure anything abhominal out. Also, I encourage you to do as much research on the internet as possible. Some of the health sites have a wealth of information and the patient often has the key to steer the doctors in the right direction. I hope this helps a little. IBS (if that is what your Mom has) is something that can be managed with proper medical assistance and paying attention to your diet and other things that may impact her. Does she have any other symtoms or conditions, or has she gone through a major stress in her life in the past few months? Sometimes that can trigger IBS. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.
