Try to talk to your dr about getting off the steroids. You should not be on that just for hives,only for more severe allergic reactions like anaphylaxis. That is when you have difficulty breathing and your body goes into shock. If you only broke out into hives, then you should just be on an antihistamine like Benadryl.Second of all, your dr shouldn't have you on steroids for such a long period of time if he doesn't know positively WHAT caused the reaction.There are many side effects to steroids as you have seen. Talk to your dr again and asked to be tested (you must be off steroids and antihistamines so test results won't be thrown off). You can't be expected to go around on steroids just cause you don't know when the hives will come back and by how.Definitely be tested! I thought I was allergic to some foods and meds and just found out I have a rare blood disease called Mastocytosis that requires me to be on antih. to prevent freak allergic reactions where my body goes into shock, and even I am not on steroids for it. Talk to your DR!
