I was recently diagnosed with IBS and have found the one thing that helps the most is to drink the Smooth Metamucil in 8 oz. of water followed by an 8 oz glass of water just before bedtime, has done more to relive the multiple bowel movements than anything else. Also avoiding certain dairy products. Each person is different as to what they can tolerate so its sort of a trial and error thing. I can drink skim milk and occasionally eat cheese but ice cream of any kind so far is a no no. Also if it has been several hours between meals, taking 2 Fibercon tablets just before a meal helps. Dont drink anything ice cold on an empty stomach and anything really hot like coffee will aggravate your system. I have had to cut down to one cup of decaf once a day and it cant be steaming hot. Then it doesnt bother me. There are a lot of web sites with information on IBS and I think I have read them all. Hope this helps some.
