Cellulitis and liver disease

Mary

Message 1 of 1

I am currently in the hospital suffering with cellulitis and other complications because of my liver. For a few months I felt great. Then one day a sledge hammer fell off the rack and grazed my foot. It didn't really hurt and only bled for a few minutes. 4 days later I developed a fever of 102 , vomiting and my right leg was swollen, hot and red from the toes to the lymph nodes near the groin. My skin was so swollen that I couldn't bend my ankle or my knee because both sides touched each other before I could even bend it slightly. The pain in the foot was and still is the worse. I'm working on my second week in the hospital. For the first week I had antibitiocs IV plus because of the liver problems, my plasma level was way off. I was given fresh frozen plasma, three bags a day for 5 days and at the end of it all, I only moved 1 point. They could not transfuse me because the volume of the fluid would either choke me or blow out my heart. I'm doing physical therapy but I have to say that it still hurts like the devil. I've done whatever they ask of me and usually end up coming back litteraly screaming with pain. I keep asking the doctor about my prognosis. I wanted to know if I will ever walk again, or worse, lose my foot. I can't believe all of this has happened because of a glancing blow. I'm a little bit nervous and a lot a bit scared. I have a 7 yr old boy at home and all I want is to get home and be there for him. I just wish I could get some answers. For instance, I wanted to know what signs would indicate that the foot would have to be removed, or that they don't expect it to get any better then it is. I had thought I was doing well and then lastnight a blood blister opened up and because there was so much fluid in there, my foot swelled up again. The fluid wasn't draining fast enough so it backed up. It looked horrible like green runny vomit. It smelled bad. It smelled sick. So now after all the work I've doen, I believe I may have reinfected myself. Of course the doctor hasn't been to see me in a week, so I don't know what's going on. Anyone have had cellulitis of this type? If you did, what happened in the end? Thank you so much
