Mildred the whole purpose of the colostomy is to allow the rest of the bowel to heal by not allowing the stool to go past the colostomy. So no you wouldn't be able to have a normal bowel movement. I n some cases the part of the bowel past the colostomy is stiched closed. The stool is going to come out the first hole it comes across which the colostomy. i hope this helps answer your question.
