Hip Replacement & Tennis

Dannielle

Message 2 of 2 Previous

Hi, Just read your message and can sympathize. I am in the same position except it isn't over tennis. I own and operate a horse farm and am terrified of the possible limitations once I undergo hip replacement. I have done everything possible to avoid it. Cortisone lasted 3 weeks, it isn't something I am fond of using. We have race horses and don't use it on them unless there is no alternative. It causes a lot of scarring and chews up remaining cartilage. We prefer, Hylan GF, which has be used on horses for about 15 years with great success. Is now being used on people under the brand name of Synvisc. It replaces the synovial fluid in the joint. It has been approved for human knees with great success. I talked my doctor into letting me try it in my hip. It was a course of three injections a week apart. Felt results after the second injection. It has worked wonders for me. I felt great until this month, that makes 3.5 months of pain relief. He is a little nervous about maintenance shots. We will need hospital board approval again. I am only 40 so I am trying to avoid the surgery as long as possible. Good luck.
