Guillain-Barre-Miller-Fisher Variant

Jackie

Message 1 of 1

I came down with GBS, Miller-Fisher Variant in 1993, at the age of 58. I spent Christmas in the hospital. Initially, the onset mimicked a stroke, that is I had numbness up the left side of my body over to my right fingertips. My face drooped on the left side and my tongue felt thick. I had no muscle control when examined by my doctor. He called in a neurologist and I received IVIG (5 doses) I left the hospital after 8 days. I experienced double vision for about a month and used a walker for about 3 weeks. I had a full recovery, except for a numbness in my left foot and leg which persists to this day. In l997 and 1998, I had a re-occurence of the illness. The double vision again lasted a month and I received IVIG at home. I noticed after the 4th dose, I had a reaction (chills, fever). It seems that when I get a virus now, I experience double vision. Other than that, I was most fortunate to have recovered.
