Pulmonary Embolism

Message 2 of 3 Previous Next

I'm sorry to hear of the trauma you and your daughter have been suffering. I'm responding because I have a similar problem - chest pain isn't going away after seven weeks of coumodin treatment for pulmonary embolism. (I'm also an active 34 year old- male) The doctors say that it isn't normal for pain to last more than about two weeks after exiting the hospital with thinned blood. I've decided there isn't a lot of knowledge on the subject, because I've been back to the emergency room three times with no answers to why the chest pain is growing in location and severity. I do know from my readings about PE that birth control pills are a common cause. If her leg is still in pain, I would think that the clot is still there and even though it is getting smaller, could dislodge a portion into the blood stream. Have the doctors done a test such as a VQ Scan (ventilation perfusion lung scan) or a CT scan to monitor the clots to see if they are dissolving in each lung? I would have them do it to make sure. One of the symptoms of PE is anxiety. This has made it difficult for me to tell whether I'm really getting worse or if I'm so worried about it that I make the symptoms increase. I hope things get better soon if not already. May God be with you and your daughter. Dymon Brady
