You should probably have the surgery. My father had it at age 70. And my grandfather had it at age 90. After the surgery, my grandfather did not even have to wear reading glasses. I went with my father to the surgery. He had emphysema and I was concerned but he did fine. The surgery is preformed on an out patient basis. Unless you have some underlying cause that does not make you a candidate for surgery, I'd say go for it.
