Hi Bob, I, too have been diagnoised with Polymyositis 2 years ago. I am 66 and was not given steroids as my neurolosist felt I would get the side effects automatically. I am now on 20 mgs of Methotrexate which can affect your liver and kidneys. It does seem to be working as I seem to be somewhat stronger. They did try HGIV which doesn't have many side effects, but my body reacted and I did get blood clots. Luckily I survived them after 9 days in the hospital. What I have found to help relax the muscles is Water Therapy in 95` water. I also have a theraputic massage once a week. This seems to be of great help. Good luck, trying to learn to live with this Polymyositis.
