I know I have thalassemia minor, but am not sure which type. Does the treatment differ? (I have been taking folic acid 4mg everyday as a dietary supplement and try to ingest iron through iron-rich foods). I wonder if I am not ODing on folic acid...! Does anyone know if there are side effects associated with too much (how much ever that may be) folic acid? Iron rich foods seem to help me though. If I slack up on that, my haemoglobin level falls and fatigue/weakness sets in. A few meals heavy in spinach and red meat bring up my strength immediately. I've found that I'm susceptible to catching colds and the flu and it does take longer than normal to recover.
