I was diagnosed with latter stage IC on Sept 23 of last year. Fortunate to have an excellent urologist. Very busy. I suggest you look up the IC association on the internet for the best info. Urologist does not usually have the time to explain all about this disease. I went on DMSO treatments and they only helped me for about 2 weeks after stopping the 6 of them. I had a bladder distention and it seemed to help. This of course is a procedure done under general anesthesia. I have been on elmiron for six months and so far it has helped my bladder a lot. I would recommend almost anyone to go on elmiron as soon as possible because it takes time to work. I also take one half of the new medication detrol twice a day and it helps the urgency a lot. I would also recommend getting or reading the IC guidelines about food. I personally cannot tolerate citrus foods or spices such as garlic or turmeric. i wish u well and keep learning all you can about this disease.
